Venegia valley and Castellaz round tour

The impressive circular walking tour at the feet of the Pale di San Martino peaks includes climbing the small rock of Castellaz above Passo Rolle

Our starting point today is the parking space at the entrance of the Val Venegia valley in the nature park Paneveggio. From here we follow the forest road to the Malga Venegia (mountain hut) and further towards the Baita Segantini. In front of us the Pale mountain group piles up, it consists of Mulaz, Focobon, Bureloni and Cimon della Pala. The serpentine path is pleasant to walk and proceeds up to the Alpine meadows with the Segantini mountain hut in the centre.

Here the path “Itinerario del Cristo pensante” turns off which we follow in order to lead us to the Castellaz. The small dolomite rock is situated above the Passo Rolle and guarantees a gorgeous view on the region. At the summit we find the summit cross and a statue which shows the reflecting Christ. For the descent we take the path at the western side and reach the “Capanna Cervino” mountain hut before we arrive at the Malga Juribello mountain hut. From there a quite rough and steep path leads us down to the parking space, our starting point.
