Hike to the XII Apostles mountain hut

The 12 Apostles - a number of Dolomite peaks in the area of Pinzolo is called like this and also the below located same-named mountain hut at 2,490 m asl, which we want to visit today

Our starting point is the 2,100 m high Doss del Sabion mountain, the skiing mountain of Pinzolo, comfortably accessible by cable car. First we walk downhill to the meadows of “Bregn da l’Ors” (1,850 m asl.), there we follow the marker no. 307. The path with view on the lake of Valagola leads us to the green plain of the Lago Asciutto lake, where the ascent starts.

The so-called “Scala Santa” winds higher and higher through the pale rocks. Thanks to some wire ropes and good waymarks we can manage the path step by step. Then the rocks become flatter and we reach a basin, where the Rif. XII Apostoli mountain hut is located. We have reached our destination! After our lunch break and a visit to the near rock chapel it’s about time to start our way back again.

This mountain hike is quite demanding, but one is rewarded by gorgeous views: from the green woods in the Val Rendena valley to the Carè Alto glaciers in the Adamello mountain group until the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites right in front of us. Really fascinating!
