Campestrin

Campestrin (Ciampestrin in Ladin) is located at an altitude of about 1,400 metres a.s.l. at only 1.5 km from Mazzin, the administrative centre of the eponymous municipality. Its name of Ladin origin derives from the word campester which means country in Ladin and refers to its location in nature. The parish church consecrated to Our Lady of Lourdes was built in 1825 and is characterised by its wooden bell tower, square-shaped windows and a polygonal apse. Between the villages of Mazzin and Campestrin lies the capitello dei fantasmi a ghost wayside shrine. According to a popular legend which has been passed down to the future generations, mysterious processions of light once descended to the valley in the dark.

From the village you can undertake wonderful hikes through the Val Udai (starting from Mazzin) which delights you with stunning panoramic views of the Dolomites. Another hike not to miss takes you from Campestrin to the Dona mountain hut. The 8-km long partially paved path has 708 metres of elevation gain and can be made with or without snowshoes. In winter the Belvedere - Pordoi and Buffaure skiing areas are easily accessible with the ski lifts from Pera. Alpine skiers can also try the Sellaronda, a skiing circuit that blends marvellous landscapes with a unique skiing experience.
