Medil

Medil is a small settlement composed of ancient hay barns which belongs to the municipality of Moena

Once known as "Women's paradise" as it was then inhabited only by men. It extends on the meadows above the hamlet of Forno, which belongs to the municipality of Moena as well. The small St Anna church deserves a visit. The monument was built in 1742, as testified by the inscription painted on the upper part of the façade. The church was consecrated in 1747 and above the portal you can see an oculus. In the village lies a huge, unloaded bomb which was probably dropped by an aircraft and found by the Germans.

In the vicinity of Medil you can undertake numerous hikes like the 9.7-km long "hay barn tour in the Women's Paradise" with approximately 400 metres of elevation gain. Another hike starts at the sports area 20 minutes from the centre of Moena and takes you to the hamlets of Medil and Penia. Mountain bikers shoult not miss a technically demanding, 11.9-km long tour leading past the hamlets of Sorte, Peniola and Medil with an altitude difference of 451 metres. The Fassa and Fiemme valleys are connected thanks to a well-maintained cycle path which is perfect for pleasant excursions with your family or friends.
