Dogs on Public Transport

Following you can find some guidelines to make sure, that travelling by public transport in the Trentino becomes a pleasure for you and your four-legged friend

Principally dogs are carried by public transport in the Trentino, if the required space is available so that other passengers are not disturbed.


On local public transport (buses):

The Trentino transport system “Trentino Trasporti” comprises buses, the Trento-Malè Marilleva Railway Line and city buses in Trento and Rovereto. Small dogs, which can be held in your arms are transported for free. For all taller four-legged companions, you have to buy a ticket, excluded from this are companion dogs. Regardless of the size of the dog, it has to be kept on a lead, must wear a muzzle and must not annoy the other passengers.


On trains:

Travelling by train is allowed for dogs in the Trentino. Also here your four-legged friend has to be kept on a lead and must wear a muzzle. Small dogs which can be carried in a container (max. 70x30x50 cm) are transported for free, for all other dogs you have to buy a full ticket. Excluded from this are companion dogs. The vaccination certificate resp. EU pet passport must be carried along.


On ships (Lake Garda):

On the ships which operate on Lake Garda, dogs are welcome if the requested space is available. For the security of all passengers, also here your four-legged friend has to be leashed and must wear a muzzle, the lead must not be longer than 1.5 m. Dogs with a shoulder height up to 50 cm are transported for free, taller dogs need an own reduced ticket. On hydrofoil boats only small dogs in a container carried on your lap are allowed. Excluded from this are companion and seeing-eye dogs, they are transported for free on all boats.


On cable cars:

Also on cable cars dogs are basically welcome. It is obligatory that your four-legged companion wears a muzzle and is leashed. If you have to buy a ticket also for your dog, depends on the single mountain railway operator. Please inform yourself about the valid regulations before you start your cable car ride.
