This snowshoe hike starts at the idyllic Malga di Valagola (or Val d’Agola) near the eponymous lake at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites

We drive from Madonna di Campiglio to the village of Sant'Antonio di Mavignola and eventually reach the Val Brenta. The small road takes us to the former Brenta tree farm where we park in the proximity of the B&B Pra della Casa, the starting point of our hike. Initially we cross the bridge over the Sarca di Vallesinella stream and follow the signpost (no. 324) to Malga Valagola. The itinerary mainly follows the forest road which leads directly to the mountain hut and is not particularly difficult.
During the final kilometre path no. 324 runs across the valley floor along the bank of the stream whereas the forest path ascends along five hairpin bends which are steeper than the previous section. The two itineraries rejoin at Malga Valagola, the final destination. Lake Val d'Agola lies only 200 metres from the mountain hut. In winter the icy lake is covered by a thick snow layer. After our picnic and a short break in this wonderful, enchanting winter landscape with view of the Dolomites we retrace our steps.
