Situated at approximately 960 m a.s.l. on a high plateau above the Piana Rotaliana at the foot of Cima Paganella, the village of Fai della Paganella looks back on an ancient history. During archaeological excavations at Doss Castel traces of the Rhaetians, a pre-roman population and a settlement dating to the Bronze Age were brought to light.
Despite being an important tourist destination, Fai della Paganella still preserves its rural character. The village counts two churches: the S. Nicolò parish church and the older San Rocco church in Cortalta. Palazzo di Fai was built around 1620 as a summer residence for the Counts Spaur and is one of the most interesting buildings of the locality.
The Paganella Ski Area is accessible by ski lift from the valley station in Santel. Its sunny and quiet position and the people's remarkable hospitality make Fai della Paganella and its hamlet of Santel an ideal starting point for walks and hikes of all levels in the mountains and its surroundings.
