An impressive via ferrata on Monte Baldo area, starting near Avio
Image gallery: via ferrata Gerardo Sega
This via ferrata is embedded in a stunning landscape near Lake Garda. From Avio, we drive towards the Valle dei Molini and park our car at the first bend.
From here, we follow trail no. 652, a narrow trail with steep switchbacks leading to the access point of the Via Ferrata Gerardo Sega. After a short visit to the Preafessa waterfall, we reach the access point of the via ferrata after approx. 1 h 45 min.
We are now at the access of the via ferrata, right below a massif rock wall where we hear the echo of birds tweets. Below the impressive, vertical walls we head to a ladder (B/C) and a crack (A/B) before arriving at a narrow itinerary (A). We proceed along steps on the right towards the rock wall. We reach an exposed, not secured stretch (A/B) and cross a large basin offering stunning panoramic views. After a short, steep section (A) we need to tackle a steep step (B) before continuing to the next section by crossing some cracks. The next section presents a challenging wall (B/C) and with some effort (A/B) we return on a forest path.
For our descent we follow the signpost "Ritorno Avio". The itinerary crosses stunning alpine meadows and leads past mountain huts and the Madonna della Neve church. We return to the junction of the Preafessa waterfall and to our starting point.
Please note: if you park your car in the area of Passo Pozza della Cola (accessible via Lago Pra da Stua) you will safe 90 minutes of walking time.
