Grauno

The small village of Grauno is situated in the upper part of the Val di Cembra at the border to the Val di Fiemme

The village of Grauno is a hamlet of the municipality of Altavalle which lies on the orographic right bank of the Avisio stream at 976 m a.s.l. and has 150 inhabitants. This small hamlet still preserves its traditional architecture which is characterised by several colonnades, fountains, balconies and attached houses.

Grauno is popular throughout Trentino for its ancient carnival which has remained unchanged and proposes a rich programme. The event culminates on Shrove Tuesday and the ritual of propitiation and fertility called "rogo del pino". Activities and entertainment fill out the whole carnival week.

Thanks to its position in the proximity of the Monte Corno Nature Park, Grauno is a popular starting point for hikes and mountain bike tours. The recently restored mill of Grauno is also worth visiting.
