Situated right at the entrance to the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park at 758 m a.s.l., the village is home to about 1,000 inhabitants. San Lorenzo in Banale is included in the list of the most beautiful hamlets of Italy (Borghi più belli d'Italia). Its typical capitals in the historic centre and the 17th century Casa Osei which houses a permanent ethnographic exhibition are worth mentioning.
The village provides a sports centre with a swimming pool and a sports field and is an ideal starting point for hikes through the Val d'Ambiez and to the Brenta Dolomites. Climbing enthusiasts can have fun in the Parco degli Scoiattoli, a rock climbing wall with 38 routes at the Centro Sportivo Promeghin.
Every year in autumn the village celebrates the Sagra della Ciuìga, a feast dedicated to the Ciuìga del Banale, a typical local sausage made from pork and boiled turnips.
