COPPA D'ORO | THE SPORTS DIRECTORS' GRAND PRIX
Also known as the Corsa “da una lira” and Gran Premio dei Direttori Sportivi d'Italia, it is a road cycling race, reserved for the Allievi category, held annually in Valsugana. The race was first conceived and organized in 1965 by Carlo Dalla Torre. The first three editions were held in the towns of Avio, Preore and Trento.
In 1968 the race landed permanently in Borgo Valsugana. The 1969, 1976, 1977 and 2020 editions were not held.
The young athletes competed not for themselves but for their sports director, who followed them throughout the season, and to whom the prizes and honors were destined for a day. The final prize used to consist of a 1-lira coin but, in recent years, this symbolic award has been replaced by a 10-cent coin due to the limited availability of these coins.
