Lardaro with its 200 inhabitants is situated at 730 m a.s.l. in a narrow point of the Valle del Chiese and belongs to the municipality of Sella Giudicarie.
The Austro-Hungarian army already recognised the strategically important landform of Lardaro, as well as its proximity to the border of Ponte Caffaro and built six fortresses during the Independence Wars of the 19th century. Forte Larino and Forte Corno are still in excellent condition.
The surroundings of Lardaro feature moderately difficult hiking paths and mountain bike routes to Forte Corno, the village of Carriola, the verdant Cherio basin and the shrine of the Madonnina di Campel. The physical effort is always rewarded with stunning panoramic views.
