The hamlet of Mezzano (640 m a.s.l.) counts 1,600 inhabitants. Its numerous impressive spots and the alleys of its historic centre reflect the simplicity of the Valle di Primiero, revealing its rural past. It is therefore no surprise that this village is considered "one of the most beautiful hamlets of Italy".
Just like other villages of the Valle di Primiero, Mezzano used to be a mineral extraction site which attracted numerous immigrants from Schwaz in Austria, without ever losing its importance as an agricultural centre. The Prati di San Giovanni, a mountain area with various farms is a popular destination for summer hikes and and home to the church of San Giovanni.
The local traditions and ancient customs are preserved and handed down to the future generations by the Gruppo Folkloristico di Mezzano, which is the oldest group of this kind in Trentino. Mezzano is also complete with a football and athletics stadium where numerous Italian Serie A teams and other sport clubs train.
