Calliano, a hamlet with numerous fortresses and castles, was the scene of various battles

Calliano is situated between the cities of Rovereto and Trento at the foot of the impressive Castel Beseno. During the Middle Ages, various castles were equipped with fortified walls, called "murazzi", which are still visible today.
Due to its strategic position, Calliano was the site of numerous battles. The battle of 1487 between the Venetian army and the Trentino troops is for sure the most significant conflict in Calliano's history. Every year a theatre performance remembers this important event.
Don't miss the neoclassical St. Lawrence church which was built in 1724 in memory of the aforementioned conflict. Other important monuments are the noble residences Palazzi Moll and Dalla Torre.
Foodies will definitely love the local dishes, including the exquisite grapes and refined wines produced here. South of the village rises another majestic castle, Castel Pietra.
