The Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Nature Park was established by the Autonomous Province of Trento in 1967 and has been a protected area ever since. It is located in the north-eastern part of Trentino and covers an area of 190 sq km in the Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa and the Valle di Primiero. The park features three large geographic areas, each one with a different landscape: the huge spruce forest, the dolomitic towers of the Pale di San Martino and the porphyry rocks of the Lagorai chain. In order to improve and facilitate the management of the park, the latter has been divided into three protected areas called "riserve", each of them with a different level of protection, purpose and socio-economic development.
The nature park features a wide range of different natural landscapes, from spruce and broadleaved woods to high rocky mountain walls, alpine pastures, peat bogs, rivers, lakes and faunistic areas, giving visitors the opportunity to live memorable moments in close contact with nature. The impressive dolomitic towers of the Pale di San Martino, the dark porphyry rocks of the Lagorai chain and the dense Paneveggio forest, also known as the "violin forest" are true gems you shouldn't miss. The latter owes its name to the refined wood which was carefully selected by luthiers and used to build violins in past times.
