The village of Fiera at 745 m a.s.l. is a popular holiday destination in the Dolomites and counts about 530 inhabitants.
The origins of the hamlet date back to 1400 when the valleys of Primiero (valli di Primiero) were ceased to the Austrian Empire. In those years, the construction of numerous copper, silver and iron mines lead to an economical and demographical momentum of these valleys. The Palazzo delle Miniere became the seat of the so-called "Bergrichter", a mining judge appointed by the emperor who supervised the mines of Primiero.
On a hill close to the centre of Fiera di Primiero there is a gothic agglomeration called "gotica mole della Pieve", composed by the archpriest church, the ancient church of San Martino and the Palazzo delle Miniere. Fiera di Primiero is also the birthplace of the engineer Luigi Negrelli (1799-1858) who planned the Suez channel and many railway lines in Switzerland and in the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia.
