Via Ferrata Rio Sallagoni

The Via Ferrata Rio Sallagoni runs through an impressive natural gorge below Castel Drena

Today we make the via ferrata Rio Sallagoni. Starting in Dro, we drive to the village of Drena, home to the eponymous castle, and park our car right opposite the sports area. Right below the car park, a gravel path leading to the entrance of the gorge, where the via ferrata Rio Sallagoni starts, branches off on the left.

The first section is quite demanding and partially steep and leads along iron rungs. The path stays on the left, just a few metres above the stream. After a waterfall, the narrowest part of the route ends. We continue on the left side and reach a Tibetan bridge that takes us to the right bank of the stream. Then, we proceed along the path running below impressive rocks. We cross another Tibetan bridge and arrive at the castle.

We reach our destination after a 90-minute walk. Having crossed a meadow, we take the main road to the castle. Near Castel Drena, a path returns to our starting point.

Please note: the first part of the via ferrata (difficulty C) is very well secured, whereas the latter section has fewer secured ropes. It is possible to take a shortcut near Castel Drena.
