The altopiano di Folgaria with its extensive network of itineraries is a hiker's paradise, not only in summer but also in autumn and winter (including snowshoeing). We ascend on Monte Finonchio in a hot day at the end of September. We walk to the village of Serrada, from where path no. 104 starts. Only a stone's throw from the centre, the asphalt path ends and a former military road crosses the forest slightly uphill until it arrives at the meadows around the mountain.
The unpaved path winds along the northern forests and after about three kilometres we reach the wide meadows of Finonchio. At the crossroads we continue towards Rifugio Fratelli Filzi while stunning views of
Folgaria, the Vigolana, of the Pasubio, Monte Baldo Monte Stivo, to the peaks of the Bondone and finally from Rifugio Filzi to the Valle dell'Adige with Trento and the Vallagarina with Volano and Rovereto embedded in vineyards. At the end of September, the mountain hut is usually closed on weekdays, which is why we prepared for a picnic. This short and easy hike along a large forest path is particularly suitable for less experienced and trained hikers.
