The altopiano di Folgaria with its extensive network of itineraries is a hiker's paradise all year round. In winter this hike can be undertaken with snowshoes. We climb Monte Finonchio on a hot September day. We walk to the village of Serrada, from where path no. 104 starts. The asphalt road ends only a stone's throw from the centre, where a former military road starts. This path leads slightly uphill across the forest to the meadows surrounding the mountain.
The gravel path crosses the forest on the northern slope and after about 3 km we arrive at the extensive meadows of Finonchio. At the crossroads we continue towards Rifugio Fratelli Filzi where we enjoy stunning views of Folgaria, the Vigolana, the Pasubio, Monte Baldo group, Monte Stivo and the peaks of Monte Bondone. The view from the rifugio Filzi ranges from the Valle dell'Adige and Trento to the Vallagarina with Volano and Rovereto among the vineyards. At the end of September, the hut is usually closed, which is why we took some food and beverages with us. The rather short route and the comfortably wide path are ideal also for less trained hikers.
