The famous Marcialonga is an international cross-country skiing race in the stunning landscape of the Dolomites
The Marcialonga, the queen of the classic cross-country skiing races, takes place every year on the last Sunday in January in the Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa valleys, which is why it is also known as “Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa”. The origins of this race date back to the 1970's when four friends had the idea of organising a ski marathon in the Val di Fiemme by taking inspiration from the legendary "Vasaloppet", a Swedish cross-country skiing competition. In the course of time the Marcialonga has become the most famous cross-country ski race of Italy.
Participants can choose between two itineraries: the classic 70 km race from Moena to Cavalese and the 45-km-long "Light" race which ends in Predazzo. The routes run across the Valli di Fiemme and Fassa and delight the athletes with stunning landscapes.
The Marcialonga is a highlight for both children and adults and the race weekend also includes an extensive event programme. Do not miss the Marcialonga Baby, the Minimarcialonga (for children aged 6-12) and the Marcialonga Young (for teenagers aged 13 to 20). The charity race Marcialonga Stars and the Marcialonga Story, a race which takes you right back to the past as the competing athletes all wear historical clothes and equipment round off this amazing weekend.
