From the Costalunga Pass to the Three Huts (Tre Baite)

This snowshoe hike beneath the Catinaccio delights us with a fantastic view of the Val di Fassa and South Tyrol

The Passo Costalunga in the skiing area of Carezza is the starting point of our hike. Initially, we walk along path no. 548 to the impressive walls of the Catinaccio (Roda di Vael). The abundant, fresh snow which fell during the night makes it difficult to follow the path. After some time however, we reach the forest road where walking becomes more comfortable. By following the signposts to the Roda di Vael mountain hut we eventually arrive at the Tre Baite huts.

If the sky were not that foggy we could admire the wonderful panoramic view of the Val di Fassa, ranging from Mt Marmolada to the Monzoni group. On our return we retrace our steps to the crossroads with the Sentiero delle Perle which we follow until we arrive at Baita Masarè. The ski lifts will be operating in a few days but today quietness is still predominant in this area. Two deer rapidly cross the dense snow in front of us. Unfortunately they are too fast to be immortalised in a picture. We continue descending along the piste until we arrive at the path paralleling the road leading to Passo Costalunga where our hike ends.
