Winter hike to the Monzoni mountain hut

The Val di Munciogn is a side valley of the St Nicholas valley near Pozza di Fassa, surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Marmolada Group

Starting point of our winter hike today, is the entrance to the Val San Nicolò valley, near the valley station of the Buffaure Cable Car. For about 1 km we follow the Ruf de Ruacia road until the bridge, where we take the forest path on the right side of the valley. After an ascent we reach the Malga Crocifisso (Kreuz Alm) where the junction to the Val di Munciogn is located (straight beside the little church). We have already managed almost half of the distance to the Malga Monzoni mountain hut.

The ascent up to the Malga Monzoni (marker no. 603) is about 3 km long and shows no specific difficulties. The hike follows the path, where also the snowmobiles drive, which take guests up to the mountain hut (upon request). We reach the hut exactly at lunchtime and enjoy local dishes and homemade dairy products, which can also be bought here.

Please note: if you don’t want to walk the entire route you can book a taxi (snowmobile) which brings you from the Malga Crocifisso to the Malga Monzoni.
