The Valle del Rio Val, also known as Val d'Osta, splits the village into two parts: la Villa, which is the main and higher located build up area (1,120 m a.s.l.) and Radoè with the parish church at 1,086 m a.s.l.
Carano is particularly known for its spring with water rich in sulfate, calcium and magnesium. This water is an efficient treatment for rheumatic and dermatologic conditions and became popular at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, the village tries to raise awareness on the benefits of mineral water.
The 16th century parish church of St. Nicholas is worth a visit. The village is surrounded by numerous sports facilities, including an outdoor sports centre, a gym and two tennis courts.
The Passo Lavazé, a winter sports paradise with cross-country ski tracks and the Alpe di Pampeago with ski slopes, is only a stone's throw from the village. On the other side of the Val di Fiemme you can find the Alpe Cermis skiing area.
