The village of Bondo (823 m a.s.l.) is home to about 700 inhabitants and belongs to the municipality of Sella Giudicarie which stretches towards the Sella di Bondo. This morainic area serves as a watershed between the basins of the Chiese and the Sarca streams.
The main attractions of Bondo are the medieval St. Bartholomews parish church which was subsequently decorated with Baroque elements and the monumental cemetery of the fallen Austrians of the Great War where more than 700 soldiers were buried. Located at the northern entrance of the village, this cemetery extends on a hill and is accessible by large stairways made of granite from the Valle di Breguzzo. In the cemetery you can admire white marble sculptures of the same valley. Archaeological findings made nearby the monumental cemetery indicate that the origins of the first human settlements of Bondo date back to the Bronze Age.
Traditionally based on wood handicraft, the village of Bondo has developed a touristic appeal in recent times. Its position at the entrance to the Valle di Breguzzo boasts numerous marvellous malghe and mountain huts. Its natural landscape is characterised by more than 3,000 m high peaks, including Cima Cop di Breguzzo. Bondo is an ideal starting point for wonderful hikes and alpine tours in the area of the
Adamello-Brenta Nature Park.
