Hike from the Malga Arnò to the Passo del Frate

The Malghe di Arnò are located at the south-eastern fringe of the Adamello Group high above Bondo. These mountain huts are the starting point for our hike to the Passo del Frate, the passage between the peaks of Mt. Uzza and Monte Corona

The spot of white marble truly stands out from the grey rocks high above the Valle di Arnò valley. It's the Passo del Frate, named after the stone pinnacle which reminds of the figure of a monk (Frate) from afar. The asphalted mountain road ends at 1,550 m asl near the meadows slightly beneath the Malga di Arnò mountain hut. We follow the path no. 262B through the forest to the upper mountain pastures. After 1 kilometre the signpost indicates the meadow path to the Malga Maggiasone mountain hut.

This steep path no. 262 coincides with a section of the Sentiero della Pace (Peace Trail). The landscape leading up to the limestone rocks beneath the Passo del Frate is characterised by meadows and heath - the last section is secured by ropes and iron stairs and requires some climbing experience. At the time of our hike in early summer, alpine flowers blossom between the limestone cliffs.

The bizarre rock formations and the panoramic view make this mountain tour at the fringe of the Adamello Group really special. We hike back on the same way. Unfortunately there are no rest points but the Malga Arnò mountain hut sells home-made cheese products.
