Sella Group

A mountain group in the heart of the popular “Sella Ronda”

The Sella group, a characteristic massif in the Dolomites, is surrounded by four passes: Passo Gardena, Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella and Passo Campolongo. The Sella group is situated east of the Sassolungo group and north of the Marmolada, between the Val di Fassa in Trentino, Livinallongo in the province of Belluno, the Val Gardena and the Val Badia in the province of South Tyrol (Alto Adige).

From the Piz Boè (3,152 m a.s.l.), the highest mountain of the group, you enjoy a fantastic view of the Val di Fassa and its surroundings. Other famous peaks, which are particularly popular among climbers and hikers, are the Torri del Sella.

In winter, the Sella group becomes an important ski area, as well as the venue of the popular Sellaronda ski circuit, which surrounds the massif with 27 km of ski slopes. In summer, the mountain range is a sought-after hiking destination for all difficulty levels. The most well-known mountain huts of this area are the Rifugio Forcella Pordoi, the Rifugio Maria and the Rifugio Boè and the most important vie ferrate are the Ferrata Tridentina, the Ferrata delle Mèsules, the Ferrata Piazzetta and the Ferrata delle Trincee.

  • Highest peak: Piz Boé (3,151 m)
  • First ascent of Piz Boé: 30th July 1864 by Paul Grohmann and G. Irschara
  • Main peaks: Sellatürme, Cima Pisciadù (2,985 m), Le Mésules (3,000 m), Piz Gralba (2,972 m), Piz de Ciavazes (2,831 m)
