Located at 1,450 m a.s.l., Campitello was the first alpine tourist centre of the valley. From 1850 onwards, almost all excursions in the Dolomites started from this village. The hamlet of Pian, an ancient Ladin shepherd's settlement, is nowadays under natural and urbanistic protection.
Numerous itineraries towards the Gruppo di Sella, Sassolungo, and Marmolada start from the valley and are the perfect occasion for relaxing strolls and alpine hikes. In winter, Campitello features a broad range of ski areas, like the Col Rodella-Belvedere, where skiing is possible from early winter onwards, thanks to a cutting-edge snowmaking system.
The ski lifts and slopes of Passo Sella lead to the Val Gardena and the Sellaronda route and are only a stone's throw from the village. Dolomiti Superski pass holders can benefit from a wide selection of ski slopes in the Dolomites, with a total length of more than 1,200 km.
