Wine

Trentino looks back on a century-long winegrowing tradition and is particularly known for its refined wines, as the considerable enological heritage of this area proves

Numerous local and international vines are cultivated in Trentino. The most prominent winemaking areas are the Val d'Adige, the Val di Cembra and the Sarca area.

One of the most characteristic white wines of the area is the Nosiola which is cultivated in the eponymous vineyards of the Valle dei Laghi and the Val di Cembra. The dried grapes are processed to the renowned Vino Santo Trentino and are characterised by a delicate flavour.

The Marzemino and the Teroldego Rotaliano are undoubtedly some of the area's most outstanding red wines. The Teroldego Rotaliano is cultivated in the piana Rotaliana, whereas the Marzemino grows on the basaltic terrains of the Vallagarina. The most popular foreign vines cultivated in Trentino include the aromatic Müller Thurgau white wine, the Chardonnay, the Pinot Bianco and the Pinot Grigio. Internationally famous red wines are the Cabernet Franc, the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot which thrive particularly well on Trentino's hills and benefit from the region's mild climate.
