The village of Palù del Fersina at 1,396 metres of altitude, on the right bank of the Fersina stream, is definitely one of the most ancient and culturally interesting settlements of the Valle dei Mòcheni. This traditional village is indeed the seat of the Istituto Culturale Mòcheno (cultural institute of the Mòcheni), an academy that studies the history and traditions of the Mòcheni peoples and protects this ancient language of Germanic origins which is still spoken by the valley's inhabitants.
During wonderful hikes or mountain bike tours you can admire all the scattered, typical farms with their wooden roofs and the Lagorai chain right behind you. The landscape here is truly fascinating: brooks and blooming meadows stretch up to Lago di Erdèmolo (1,700 m a.s.l.) and the mountain hut rifugio Sette Selle (suitable for overnight stays). Five kilometres from Palù towards the lake you can find the 16th century "Gruab va Hardimbl" mine which is now a mining museum. Since ancient times, the Valle del Fersina has been famous for its richness in minerals.
In this area, ancient traditions are kept alive: on New Year's Eve, the inhabitants of the valley carry a coloured star ("Stella") through the village while singing traditional songs. Another festival is the traditional "del Vècio e de la Vècia" held during carnival.
