Molina di Ledro

Molina di Ledro stretches along the lakeshore of Lake Ledro and is famous for its prehistoric pile-dwellings

The village of Molina di Ledro is situated near the eponymous Lake Ledro and is well-known for its pile-dwellings dating back to the Bronze Age, which are now exhibited in the Museo delle Palafitte (pile-dwelling museum) inaugurated in 1972. The museum displays archaeological findings from the excavations performed by the Museo di Scienze Naturali di Trento (Natural science museum). The numerous objects all date back to the Bronze Age and include handmade pottery, bronze, stone and bone and wooden objects. The pile-dwelling reconstruction on the lake shore outside the museum should not be missed.

In the centre of Molina, just south of Piazza Roma a granite stairway leads up to the 18th-century St. Vigil church. The S. Francesco da Paola church from 1628 stands in Verdesina, the oldest district of Molina. Slightly below the St. Francesco church lies the "Casa Demadonna", a noble residence inhabited among others by the Scaglieri family in the 14th century.

The "Casa Zecchini" in Molina is the birth place of the famous poet and translator of well-known German works Andrea Maffei. The frescoes decorating the casa "Al Castel" and "Casa Baì" in the village centre are also worth mentioning.
