Cavalese, the administrative centre of the Val di Fiemme, is situated at 1,000 m a.s.l. and counts 4,050 inhabitants. The adjacent ski slopes in winter and its magnificent landscapes in summer, as well as its cultural richness, make Cavalese a sought-after holiday destination.
Cavalese offers a wide range of sports activities and is therefore a true paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. In fact, the ski lifts and slopes of the Cermis ski area guarantee snow during the entire winter season. The 7.5 km long Olimpia piste at 2,000 m a.s.l. covers a drop of 1,400 metres and is an exceptionally thrilling adventure for experienced skiers. Cross-country skiers can try the tracks on the valley floor and on the Passo Lavazè and practise this wonderful sport in a mesmerising panorama where also different routes for snow-shoe tours are available.
In summer you can undertake numerous hikes, walks, mountain bike tours, trips on cycle paths and even horse rides. The village features many cultural buildings, such as the church of San Vigilio of the 17th century, the parish church Santa Maria Assunta and the adjacent Santuario della Madonna Addolorata. The San Sebastiano church with its spectacular tower in the immediate vicinity of the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, houses the Pinacoteca di Fiemme (Fiemme Art Gallery), one of the most important museums of the valley. The Museo di Arte Contemporanea (Contemporary Art Museum of Cavalese) in the historic centre, features an interesting exhibition focussing on the bond between local traditions and modern artistic currents.
