Geological Museum of the Dolomites

Discover Everything on the “Pale Mountains” in the Geological Museum in the Val di Fiemme

The Geological Museum of the Dolomites (Museo Geologico delle Dolomiti ) is located in the main square of Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme in Trentino, right next to the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Philip and St. James. The museum was founded in 1899 with the aim of supporting and promoting the geological value of this area and is nowadays a local seat of the MUSE, the famous science museum in Trento.

Discover the long history of the Dolomites, a World Heritage since 2009, thanks to an interactive exhibition stretching over two floors. Their inestimable value is shown by an immense geologic collection of over 12,000 exemplares, which also includes the richest collection of invertebrate fossils from the Middle Triassic in Italy.

In winter, the Museo Geologico delle Dolomiti offers various activities for all age groups, such as guided tours and interesting thematic workshops, the so-called "Geolabs". In summer, after having completed the museum tour, visitors can continue their journey in the fascinating world of the Dolomites on the Sentiero Geologico Dos Capel, a 3.5 km long circular thematic path with a difference in altitude of 168 m. The path of medium difficulty is suitable also for children and families. Along the path you will find some educational installations, realised by the MUSE and the Museo Geologico delle Dolomiti di Predazzo.
