Mountain tour to the Cornetto della Vigolana

From the Passo Sommo to the Rif. Paradiso mountain hut and further to the small summit of the Monte Cornetto della Vigolana high above the village of Folgaria, a panoramic mountain in the heart of the Southern Calcareous Alps

The 1,340 m high Passo del Sommo, located on the road from Folgaria to Lavarone, is the starting point of our mountain tour to the 2,060 m high Cornetto della Vigolana. A parking space can be found just 200 m away from the Chalet Sommo at the mountain pass (towards Folgaria). We follow the meadow path at the slope of Mt. Sommo towards the forest and look out for the signpost "Rifugio Paradiso". This mountain hut, a well-known rest point, is located in the middle of a meadow and was used as mountain station of the now dismantled Folgaria chairlift in former times.

We continue our hike towards the St. Vigilius Chapel where we turn into the path no. 425 leading uphill through the forest. The path is rather steep and gets flatter on the edge of the steep ravine of the Val Profinaz valley. The landscape is characterised by mountain pines. Now, in early summer, a myriad of mountain flowers are blossoming between the rocks. Past the junction on the Anticima Cornetto (pre-summit) with its Croce dello Scialpinista (Ski Tourers' Cross), we reach the viewpoint on the summit.

The way back leads us via the Antecima Cornetto on the path no. 451 through the rocky high alpine landscape to the meadows and forests and finally to the point where this path meets our ascent route near the Malga Cornetto di Dietro mountain hut. We walk the last 2 kilometres back to the Passo Sommo. The highlight of this beautiful tour is the varied landscape and the route changing between a pleasant forest path and a rocky mountain trail.
