Hike to the Dorigoni Mountain Hut

The Rif. Silvio Dorigoni, one of the best-known and history-charged mountain huts in the Trentino, is located in the Stelvio National Park, at the end of the beautiful Val di Rabbi valley. Behind the hut, the majestic gigantic mountain at the border to South Tyrol are rising. Two hiking paths proceed up to the Rif. Dorigoni mountain hut: the first route is easy with little altitude difference, but it is quite long – this hike we will describe following. The second route is the more known one, it is shorter and proceeds past the Saent Waterfalls. But this path is very steep and has a high difference in altitude.

So we choose the more comfortable version today. Our starting point is the village of San Bernardo in the Val di Rabbi valley where we follow the signposts to the parking spaces at the end of the village. At the parking space we take path no. 130 which leads us uphill, straight to the Rif. Dorigoni, without major difficulties.

A bit of attention is in demand at the Malga Artise/Terzolasa hut where the path branches: here we follow the upper path which proceeds uphill. For our way back we take the path no. 106 to Prà del Saent, a wonderful green pasture landscape which is traversed by the Rabbi stream. Here we leave path no. 106 and follow a non-numbered trail which is well-trodden an easy to find. It leads us back to our starting point again, the parking space in San Bernardo.
