Ossana was included into the list of Italy's most beautiful villages in 2022. It is situated in a scenic basin in the Alta Val di Sole near the hamlets of Cusiano and Fucine. In the locality of Ossana customs and traditions still continue to live on as numerous country festivals and events prove.
This place coincides with the former religious centre of the upper part of the valley. However, the village was not only a religious centre but also an important administrative centre, as the remains of the majestic medieval Castel San Michele testify. In the village centre of Cusiano rises the precious S. Maria Maddalena church which hosts wonderful frescoes painted by the artists Giovanni and Battista Baschènis in 1473.
Slightly east of the village, at the foot of a 17th century church, the former Austro-Hungarian military cemetery is located. On a hill near it stands the monument of the Kaiserschützen which is now known as the Parco della Pace (Peace Park) and promotes fraternity among populations.
A calm and peacefulpath leads from Ossana to the Valpiana valley, an ideal starting point for easy walks or challenging alpine hikes. In winter the cross-country ski tracks, the ski lifts for beginners, children and families and its vicinity to the Marilleva (4 km), Pejo (10 km) and the Passo del Tonale (15 km) ski areas, make Ossana a perfect winter holiday destination for ski and snow enthusiasts.
