Ossana

Ossana is a popular winter and summer holiday destination, which offers various hiking paths in its surroundings

Ossana, since 2022 one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, including the localities of Cusiano and Fucine, is located in the upper Val di Sole valley and is characterised by a rich variety of traditions and customs, what is testified by numerous manifestations and events taking place in the village.

It is also the clerical centre of the upper Val di Sole valley and has been thriving due to iron industry. A majestic testimony of these times is the Mediaeval Castel San Michele, which has often been a controversial subject between the count of Tyrol and the bishop of Trento. In the centre of Cusiano, however, there is the Santa Maria Maddalena church, which features a fresco cycle by Giovanni and Battista Baschènis, dating back to 1400 AD.

In the east of the village, near a church dating back to 1700 AD, there is an Austrian-Hungarian war cemetery. And next to the war cemetery there is the Park of Freedom ("Parco della Pace").

In summer, there is a path leading to the village of Val Piana, which is a perfect starting point for pleasant walks as well as tours to the surroundings mountains. In winter, however, Ossana is, thanks to several cross-country ski tracks, a ski lift for beginners as well as the near skiing areas of Marilleva (4 km), Pejo (10 km) and the Passo Tonale (15 km), a popular winter holiday destination.
