The Malghe di Arnò on the south-eastern side of the Adamello Group are the starting point for our hike to Passo del Frate, a mountain pass between the peaks of Monte Corona and Uzza

Passo del Frate, named after a stone tower resembling a monk, is a conspicuous white marble formation among the grey rocks above the Valle di Arnò. The asphalt road ends at 1,550 metres a.s.l. nearby the meadows below Malga di Arnò. We ascend path no. 262B through the woods to reach the alpine meadows of the malga. After one kilometre, a signpost indicates the path leading to the meadows of Malga Maggiasone.
Path no. 262, which partially coincides with the Sentiero della Pace, leads through a steep section. Moorlands and meadows alternate during our ascent towards the calcareous rocks below Passo del Frate. The final section is equipped with cables and iron steps and requires some climbing experience. In early summer, this section is characterised by a rich flora, typical of landscapes with calcareous rock. The striking rock formations of the surroundings and the panoramic view are fantastic. We return on the same path. Unfortunately, there are no refreshment areas along the way, but Malga di Arnò sells home-made cheese and other dairy products.
