We start our hiking tour at Passo Pordoi (2,240 metres a.s.l.) above Canazei in the Val di Fassa, from where we take the cable car up to the 2,947 metres high Mount Sass Pordoi on the south-western boarder of the Sella group. The path descends to Forcella Pordoi, where path no. 627 towards Rifugio Boé, which coincides partially with the Alta Via delle Dolomiti AV 2, begins. We cross a moonscape-like landscape and approach Rifugio Boé, situated at the head of the famous Val Mezdì. Right before the mountain hut, a junction indicates Piz Boé to the right, but we follow path no. 638. From here on, the route proceeds steadily uphill. The exposed sections on rocky terrain are secured with ropes and metal steps and require sure-footedness. However, this secured section is not difficult to manage.
After almost two hours of walking, we finally reach the peak. On Piz Boé there are a transmission aerial, a summit cross and the small mountain hut Capanna Piz Fassa, a wooden hut, just a few square metres in size. The true highlight of Mt Boé, however, is the stunning view of the Sella group and the surrounding Dolomites: Fanes, Marmolada, Sassolungo, Odle, among others. We chose the easiest itinerary for our tour. If you seek a more challenging path, you can opt for a shorter but steeper and more exposed route by following the signpost "Capanna Fassa / Piz Boé" from Forcella Pordoi.
