We hike to Mt Pala di Santa between the Val di Fiemme and the Val d’Ega from where we have a spectacular view of the Ortles-Cevedale group and the Dolomites

This moderately difficult hiking tour (4 hours of walking time and 770 m of altitude gain) starts at the Lavazé mountain pass which is accessible from Cavalese via Daiano and Varena in the Val di Fiemme. From the summit of the pass (1,809 m a.s.l.) we follow path no. 574 which branches off to the left after about 2 km and proceeds steeply uphill. After the timberline we walk along the mountain crest and further up to the summit (2,487 m a.s.l.).
The stunning view extends from the Val di Fiemme and the Val di Fassa (with the Pale di San Martino, Latemar and Catinaccio mountains) to the main chain of the Alps, the Ortles mountain group and the Brenta Dolomites. The villages of Nova Ponente and Monte San Pietro on the western side are closer to us.
To complete this tour, we walk across the pastures towards north and descend then along the path of the ski slope to Passo di Pampeago with the Latemar always in sight. There we take path no. 9 which leads us first through the forests on the western side of the mountain and then directly back to Passo Lavazé.
