Summit hike to Mt Pala di Santa

Above the timberline between the Val di Fiemme and the Val d’Ega a gorgeous view from the Dolomites to the Ortles Alps waits for us on the summit.

This moderately difficult hiking tour (4 h walking time, 770 m altitude difference) starts at the Lavazé mountain pass which is accessible from Cavalese via Daiano and Varena in the Val di Fiemme. At the summit of the pass (1,809 m asl.) we follow the path no. 574 which branches to the left after about 2 km and proceeds steeply uphill. After the timberline we walk along the mountain crest and further up to the summit (2,487 m asl.).

The view is stunning and extends from the Val di Fiemme valley via the Val di Fassa valley (with the Pale di San Martino, Latemar and Catinaccio mountains) to the main chain of the Alps, the Ortles mountain group and the Brenta Dolomites. A bit closer the village of Nova Ponente and the pilgrimage site of Pietralba.

Our hiking tour proceeds further towards north, we walk downhill to the Passo di Pampeago (Reiterjoch), the Latemar mountain is always in front of us. Then we follow the path no. 9 which leads us straight back to the Lavazé mountain pass through the woods.
