Cles

The village of Cles is the administrative centre of the Val di Non. Located at the entrance of the Val di Sole at 658 m a.s.l. on the western bank of Lago di Santa Giustina, it is home to approximately 7,200 inhabitants

The so-called "Tavola Clesiana" was emanated by Emperor Tiberio Claudio in 46 AD and testifies the conferment of the Roman citizenship to the ancient populations of the valleys. A copy of the original "Tavola Clesiana" found in Cles is exposed in the Palazzo Assessorile.

Cles is not only an ideal starting point for numerous hikes in the valley, but also for those wanting to discover the cultural and natural gems of the Valli di Non e Sole, including the Brenta Dolomites, the Ortles and the Mendola. At Lago di Santa Giustina you can practise water sports ranging from sailing to canoeing, windsurfing and recreational fishing.

Cles is immersed in the fruit orchards where the world-famous apples of the Val di Non grow. Between the end of April and mid-May the blossoming apple trees enchant every visitor with their stunning beauty. The Consorzio Melinda counts more than 5,000 members and produces 300,000 tons of apples every year, including Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Renetta Canada, which are undoubtedly the most-cultivated types of apples.
