Lake Santa Massenza is located at an altitude of 245 m a.s.l. in Vezzano, a hamlet of the municipality of Vallelaghi. On its northern shore stands one of the largest hydroelectric power plants of Italy. The lake is connected to the nearby Lake Toblino via a canal passing under the Gardesana, a famous road in Trentino. The waters of Lake Molveno and the Sarca stream flow both into Lake Santa Massenza and the hydroelectric pvower plant.
Both lakes are immersed in a stunning natural landscape that attracts visitors and anglers alike. The body of water is a natural habitat for numerous fish species including eels, carp, rudd and tench.
Lake Santa Massenza has a length of 1,200 metres, a width of 400 metres and an average depth of 13.4 metres. It extends over a surface of 0.3 sq km and its water temperature is quite low, which is why only the bravest have a refreshing swim. In winter, its frozen surface turns into an ice rink. Just like the basin of Santa Massenza where olives, vines, broccoli and black truffle grow and grappa is produced, the eastern shore of the lake is characterised by vineyards and fruit orchards. The western and southern shores are accessible to visitors and equipped with tables and benches for picnics with your family.
In the surroundings of the lake run several hiking and walking paths. The easy, almost entirely flat route around the lake is suitable for baby carriages. From a small car park in the locality Due Laghi on the western bank of the lake starts a pleasant 450-metre long pedestrian path leading to the hydroelectric power plant of Santa Massenza.
