The castle dates back to 1311, when Count Heinrich of Tyrol allowed Tissone di Altspaur to build a guard tower with potential adjoining buildings along the Via Nuova.
Although the ruins of the castle require restoration, they are still impressive and clearly visible. The ancient crenellated tower is surrounded by thick rectangular walls. Only the external structures in stone have survived to this day, whereas the ceilings and floors tumbled down already a long time ago. The castle was destroyed in a terrible fire in 1670, which is why it lost its medieval appearance.
Unfortunately, the new rectangular building erected in 1700 was abandoned and heavily destroyed during the Napoleonic era.
The still visible remains of the castle are freely accessible.
