The history of Castel Telvana dates back to the 13th century and is closely intertwined with the history of the village of Borgo Valsugana which used to be an important Roman station along the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate. The central part of the monument surrounds a 26-metre high square watchtower. Some sources report that the castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590, whereas other documents date its devastation to the Middle Ages. In 1665 it was set on fire and converted into a baronial residence following its restoration.
Today the castle can be reached by walking along the Sentiero dei Castelli, a wonderful panoramic path that starts from the centre of Borgo Valsugana and runs along the slopes of Monte Ciolino to Castel Telvana.
Castel Telvana is a private property and can be admired only from the outside.
