In former times, the keep of the fortress served as a guard tower over the Valle del Noce. According to written documents this 12th century fortress hosted several trials when it was a fief of the Cagnò family. The polygonal curtain wall and the Gothic chapel at the foot of the keep were added in the 15th century. Over the centuries the Rocca di Samoclevo lost its importance to the underlying Castel Caldes, which is why it was turned into a residence for farmers and their families in the 17th century.
