Hike to Mt Stivo

Monte Stivo, a 2,054 m high mountain, separates the Valle del Sarca north of Lake Garda from the Vallagarina. Hikers walking to its summit in early spring will be amazed by the wide botanic variety on its meadows

We start our hike in late May from Sant'Antonio, a village above the passo di Santa Barbara which can be reached from Bolognano di Arco or from Ronzo Chienis (Val Gresta). The car park is located near the Bar S. Antonio among forests and fields. We follow signpost no. 608 B, an asphalt road which turns into an unpaved road to the meadows of0 "Le Prese".

The pastures of Monte Stivo at 1,450 m a.s.l. accompany us up to the top. In the last days of May they are in full bloom: peonies, wild tulips, anemones, Alpine buttercups, gentians and primroses are only some of the numerous species of plants found in this area. The colourful spectacle compensates the foggy view towards Lake Garda and to the valleys. We follow the ascending path to the summit immediately after having passed rifugio Marchetti. From the peak we can see the Valle dell'Adige with Rovereto, Lake Garda with the villages of Riva del Garda and Arco.

After a break at the mountain hut we descend along path no. 608 to Malga Stivo and continue on the wide path to La Prese and return to the car park in Sant'Antonio on the same path.
