May hike to the Albi mountain hut

Garniga Terme on Mt Bondone near Trento is our starting point - we walk up to the alpine meadows of the Malga di Albi through the mixed forest and discover several signs of spring of the Southern Alps.

At the road Trento – Cimone – Garniga Terme the village Zobbio is situated. Here our hike starts. First we walk to Garniga Terme along the path which parallels the road. We make a side trip to the church of Sant'Osvaldo (14th century), which is located on a hill. The village is situated on an altitude of 800 m a.s.l. and offers also a wonderful view across the Val d'Adige of Trento. We follow the markers towards Garniga Vecchia and keep left, so we reach Garniga Vecchia. There the path to the Malga di Albi turns off on the right. The path-entrance is a bit hidden in the bushes.

Steeper and steeper the path leads up the hill. In the clearings of the forest we find gorgeous peonies. After approx. 50 minutes the path leaves the forest and we reach the meadows of the Malga Albi. Now we are at an altitude of 1,260 meters a.s.l. An amazing richly coloured carpet of alpine flowers surrounds us: gentian, cowslips and different orchids.
After a rest at the mountain hut we choose the asphalt road to come back. A gentle walk via the village Gatter back to Zobbio.

The signs, which were also described and illustrated by us, have largely been removed. The way there is therefore difficult and we recommend that you use the hiking map for orientation.
