Hike to the Coredo Lakes and the Sette Larici Hut

A circular hike across the fields and forests of the Predaia high plateau and through the villages of Coredo, Tavon, Sfruz and Smarano

This hike can be undertaken in spring, summer and even autumn. On a beautiful spring day, we start from the village of Coredo and walk towards Tavon. We leave the village behind us and take the path to the lakes. The artificial lakes Lago di Tavon and Lago di Coredo are situated in a basin between the slopes. Both serve as irrigation reservoirs for the nearby fruit orchards. Nowadays, the area is visited by locals and tourists.

We cross the dam between the two lakes and ascend on the opposite slope, where we take a path coming from San Romedio. A short section of our path coincides with the long-distance routes sentiero Frassati and via Vigilius. At the crossroads, the two itineraries separate and we enjoy a stunning view of the nearby San Romedio sanctuary.

At the fork we ignore the signposts to the Baita Sette Larici hut and keep right. We proceed towards south along the sentiero Frassati (SF) leading to Merlonga and Smarano. After another break on a panoramic terrace of Madonnina dei Dossi, we admire the lakes of Coredo and Tavon. Then, we continue for another kilometre and shortly before Merlonga, we turn left to the verdant clearing where the Madonnina di Smarano chapel stands. Near the chapel starts a slightly uphill fitness trail through the forest (no. 3, "Al bacino - 7 Larici"). After about 30 minutes we arrive at the Baita Sette Larici hut, where we enjoy a delicious lunch.

We are now at the highest point of our hike and continue walking along path no. 16 towards Sfruz. This village is surrounded by large meadows offering an impressive view of the Brenta Dolomites. We descend through the fields towards Smarano where the forest gives way to blooming apple orchards, which we cross to complete our tour and return to Coredo.
