This beautiful summer hike to Malga Kraun above Mezzocorona includes a cable car ride

In early June we undertake an easy walk to Malga Kraun where we will have our lunchbreak. Our starting point is the valley station of the Monte Mezzocorona cable car in Mezzocorona. The cable car allows us to save the initial considerable climb. The narrow cabins accommodate up to seven people per ride.

This cable car is one of the steepest in Europe: despite being only 937 metres long, the route between the valley and the mountain stations of the cable car is characterised by a truly impressive medium gradient of 66.4% and a maximum gradient of 89.7% and is covered in only three minutes. In recent times the popularity of Monte Mezzocorona has increased thanks to the famous suspension bridge and 123-metre long skywalk which extends 130 metres above the vineyards of the Piana Rotaliana.

At the valley station we take path no. 507 to Malga Kraun. This easy itinerary almost entirely follows a forest path. In early summer the alpine meadows turn into a sea of wonderful blossoming flowers. Right before the malga at 1,200 m a.s.l. we follow the signpost of the "La magia del Bosco" theme path which shows us 10 carved wooden sculptures.

A secular silver fir with a trunk diameter of five metres was transformed into a natural monument known as "Candelabro". The silver fir is a conifer with a light-grey bark. Soon we reach Malga Kraun, a well-known hiking destination with refreshment point. After a delicious lunch we return to the mountain station of the cable car - this time without detouring to the theme path - where we take the cable car back to Mezzocorona.

Please note: the theme path "La Magia del Bosco" is temporarily closed!

Due to renovation works the cable car will be out of service starting from 6 January 2026.
