Spring is the ideal season to admire the blooming apple trees, mediaeval castles and deep canyons of the Val di Non
Image gallery: Hike from Castel Valer to the St. Justina Hermitage
When the fruit orchards in the Val di Non are in bloom, it is the perfect moment to visit Tassullo in the municipality of Ville d’Anaunia. After buying a ticket for the castle at the ticket office at Palazzo Pilati in Tassullo, we start our hike to the 13th century Castel Valer to attend a guided tour, which lasts about 1 hour (please note: guided tours at Castel Valer can now be booked online or directly at the Val di Non Tourism Association).
Afterwards, we return to Tassullo and walk towards the railway station where we follow the marker no. 529 which proceeds into the gorge to the Eremo di Santa Giustina. The descent is quite steep but we can already see the hermitage between the rocks. Unfortunately, due to the works along the path, it is not possible to visit the hermitage. We conclude our hike in the canyon heading towards south until we arrive at a small path in the apple orchards which takes us back to Tassullo.
