Hike to Rifugio Solander and Lago delle Malghette

This circular walk through the forests near Passo Carlo Magno leads past the Malga Folgarida di Dimaro and Malghet Aut on Monte Vigo and to the Lago delle Malghette

Our hike begins north of passo Campo Carlo Magno at 1,650 m a.s.l. Initially, we follow a forest path to Malga Dare. From there, we proceed our hike towards Malga Folgarida di Dimaro, where path no. 265, connecting Folgarida to Lago delle Malghette, meets our path. However, we continue hiking on the forest path towards Malghet Aut and to the rifugi Rosalpina and Albasini. The easy path leads uphill. Having arrived at Malghet Aut, we continue to climb towards Monte Vigo.

We stop at Rifugio Solander (a restaurant at 2,050 m a.s.l.) for a well-deserved break. On this peak overlooking the Val Mastellina, we enjoy a stunning view of the Presanella group and the Brenta Dolomites and the Ortles-Cevedale group. The comfortable forest path ascends to Monte Vigo (2,170 m a.s.l.), the highest point of our hike.

South-west of us, we can already spot Lago delle Malghette. We descend on a steep mule path until we reach this stunning lake embedded among meadows and forests. The Brenta Dolomites are reflected in its waters. This is a truly fascinating place! Our descent continues on a forest path; we cover the final 3 kilometres to Campo di Carlo Magno on the forest road of Malga Vigo.
